Cleaning the wood
Water and a soft cloth — that's it. What never to use, plus what to do if a stain sets in.
The wood inside your sauna is a living surface. It absorbs and releases moisture as the cabin heats and cools, and over time it develops a patina from regular use.
What to use
- Water and a soft cloth for normal cleaning
- A soft brush for the bench surface if it gets gritty (rare; only if foreign material is brought in)
What not to use
- Soap or detergent (these can be absorbed by the wood and released as off-gassing during heating)
- Bleach or any harsh cleaner
- Wood polish, varnish, or any sealing product (the wood needs to breathe and absorb moisture)
- Pressure washers (excessive water saturates the wood)
