Clearance requirements
Minimum clearances around your sauna for ventilation and safety, plus extra-space considerations for cold plunges and outdoor showers.
Clearance applies to all four Ritual models. The values are based on heater ventilation requirements and structural airflow needs.
Minimum clearances
| Direction | Minimum clearance |
|---|---|
| Rear | 5 cm (2 inches) |
| Sides (left and right) | 5 cm (2 inches) |
| Overhead | 30 cm (12 inches) |
| Front (door swing) | Enough room for the door to swing fully open and a person to step through; typically 36 inches / 91 cm |
Why these numbers
- The 5 cm at the rear and sides allows ventilation between the cabin and any adjacent structure (fence, wall, planter, building). It prevents moisture from being trapped against the wood, which can lead to mildew or accelerated weathering.
- The 30 cm overhead clearance is required for heater ventilation and safe operation. Heat rises off the cabin during sessions, and adequate space above the roof is part of the safety design.
- The front clearance ensures the door swings fully open and you can step in and out without obstruction, which is also a fire safety consideration.
For installations near other features (cold plunge, outdoor shower, seating): plan additional space beyond the minimum clearance to allow for the workflow you want around the sauna.
