Coastal and humid environments
Why the Bettr build (316 stainless, treated wood, fiberglass base) handles salt air and humidity, plus a maintenance schedule for installations near saltwater.
Bettr saunas are specified for coastal and humid environments. The 316 marine-grade stainless steel is the same standard used on boats, and the wood treatments handle high humidity.
- Salt air
- 316 stainless does not corrode in salt air. The hardware is unaffected by typical coastal exposure.
Wood in humid environments
- Nordic Spruce: thermally modified for moisture resistance. Performs well in coastal and humid conditions.
- Canadian Red Cedar: naturally rot-resistant from thujaplicin oils. Performs well in coastal and humid conditions.
Maintenance for coastal installations within 100 feet (30 m) of saltwater
- Rinse the exterior with fresh water every 2 to 4 weeks to remove salt deposits
- Inspect hardware annually for any unexpected discoloration
- Verify drainage around the foundation, especially during storm seasons
High-humidity inland environments: No special precautions beyond standard maintenance.
Hurricane and severe weather areas
- Standard installations are not anchored to the foundation
- In hurricane-prone areas, anchor the sauna to the foundation
- Contact our team for anchoring guidance specific to your model and foundation type
- Consider seasonal preparation (clearing the area, securing nearby objects that could become projectiles)
