Sounds during heat-up and cool-down

Popping and creaking are normal. Loud bangs, continuous sounds, or scraping inside the heater are not.

Popping or cracking sounds from the heater and cabin during heat-up and cool-down are normal. The metal heater housing expands as it heats and stones may shift slightly. The wooden cabin also expands and contracts as temperature changes, which produces mild creaks.

When sounds are concerning (contact our team)

  • A loud bang (single sharp sound, much louder than normal popping)
  • Continuous sound that doesn't stop after the cabin is at temperature
  • Sound combined with visible damage to the heater or housing
  • Sound of metal scraping inside the heater (can indicate stone movement against elements)
