Stone care

What to do during use, what not to do, and the routine inspection schedule for sauna stones.

Stones don't require active maintenance during normal use.

During use

  • Stones don't need cleaning between sessions
  • After löyly, the stones will have mineral residue from evaporated water. This is normal and doesn't affect performance.
  • Avoid pouring water on stones that haven't been heated. Cold water on cold stones doesn't make steam and can crack stones.

Routine inspection

  • Visually inspect stones monthly for visible cracks or shattered pieces
  • Replace any obviously broken stones
  • Once a year, restack the stones. Vibration and heat cycling causes them to settle and pack tighter over time. Restacking restores air flow.
