Winter care
Sauna heats normally in winter; what changes is exterior care — ice on the path, snow on the roof, extended heat-up time below -20°F.
The sauna heats normally in winter and usage doesn't change. The exterior care does.
- Keep the path to the door clear of ice. Slip hazards near the sauna are a real concern.
- After heavy snowfall, clear the roof of any accumulation greater than 12 inches (30 cm)
- After ice storms, gently inspect the unit for any ice buildup that might affect door operation or vents
- In extreme cold (below -20°F / -29°C), expect heat-up time to extend to 35 to 40 minutes; this is normal
If your area gets significant snow, a snow rake works well for clearing the roof from ground level.
