First fire-up procedure

First fire-up procedure

The controlled first heating that burns off element and stone smells. Two cycles at 230°F with door cracked. Stop if you see smoke or smell strong chemical odor.

The first time you heat your sauna, you'll notice a smell. This is normal. New heater elements release a burn-off smell during the first heat cycle, and new stones can have a slight mineral smell. The smell goes away after the first 2 to 3 cycles.

First fire-up steps

  1. Confirm the heater is properly installed, the stones are loaded (Section 8.5), and the electrical connection is verified.
  2. Open the door and the airflow vents to allow ventilation during burn-off.
  3. Turn on the heater. Set the target temperature to 230°F / 110°C and the run time to 60 minutes.
  4. Stay nearby during the first 30 minutes. Check that the heater is heating evenly and there are no unusual sounds or strong smells (a faint burn-off is normal; smoke or strong chemical odor is not).
  5. After the heater hits temperature and the timer completes, let the unit cool naturally with the door cracked open.
  6. Run a second cycle the same way. By the third cycle, the burn-off smell should be gone and the unit is ready for normal use.
