Insects and wildlife
Common issues (wasps in vents, spider webs, rodents under the base), prevention, and what to do if you find a nest.
Outdoor saunas in some climates can attract insects looking for warm or sheltered spaces.
Common issues
- Wasps or bees nesting in airflow vents during warm months
- Spiders building webs in corners or under the unit
- Mice or other small rodents seeking shelter under the base in winter
Prevention
- Inspect vents monthly during warm seasons; clear any insect nests early before they become established
- Maintain clearance around the unit (Section 4.11) so animals don't have easy access to confined spaces
- Don't store food or food-related items near the sauna
- Keep grass and vegetation around the unit trimmed
If you find a nest
- Wasps and bees: contact a professional pest control service if the nest is established. Don't attempt to remove an active wasp nest yourself.
- Spider webs: clean during your weekly or monthly routine
- Rodents: contact pest control. Identify the entry point and address it before reinfestation.
The 316 stainless hardware and treated wood are not damaged by typical insect activity, but cleared vents and inspected corners are part of standard care.
