Research is limited and depends on temperature, duration, and stage. First-trimester sauna is generally not advised. Talk to your obstetrician.

The research on sauna use during pregnancy is limited and depends on the temperature, duration, and the specific stage of pregnancy.

General guidance

  • Most obstetricians advise against sauna use during the first trimester due to concerns about elevated core body temperature and fetal development
  • Later in pregnancy, some practitioners allow short, lower-temperature sessions if the patient is otherwise healthy and accustomed to sauna use
  • Frequent or extended high-temperature sessions during pregnancy are not recommended

Talk to your obstetrician before continuing or starting sauna use during pregnancy.
