Replacing stones
When to replace, how to replace, and the burn-off cycle for new stones. Stones are consumable — expect a 2-3 year service life.
Stones break down over time from repeated heat cycling. They are consumable items, expected to be replaced periodically.
Replace your stones when
- A stone visibly cracks in half or shatters
- The pile becomes shorter (stones reduce in size as they break down)
- The löyly produces less steam than it used to (a sign that the stones are losing surface area)
- It has been more than 2 to 3 years of regular use
How to replace stones
- Make sure the heater is turned off and fully cooled before handling stones
- Remove the existing stones from the heater
- Clean any dust or fragments from the stone basket
- Load the new stone set following the same loading procedure as initial setup (Section 8.5)
- Run the heater to a high temperature with the door and vents open for the first cycle to burn off any dust on the new stones
Replacement stones are available through Bettr support. The replacement is a 20 kg set, same as the original.
