Smells during operation

Section 11.12Troubleshooting

Smells during operation

Faint burn-off in first sessions is normal. Strong chemical, persistent burn, or musty smells warrant a call.

A faint burn-off smell during the first 2 to 3 sessions is normal (Section 8.1).

Strong chemical or burning smell (stop using and contact our team)

  • The smell is strong and unmistakable, not faint
  • It persists into the third session and beyond
  • It's combined with visible smoke or excessive heat from the heater housing
Wood smell
Wood releases its natural scent when heated, especially Canadian Red Cedar. This is normal and many owners consider it a feature. Both woods diminish in scent over the first few months as the cabin breaks in, but never fully lose it.
Musty, sour, or rotten smell (contact our team immediately)
Not normal. Can indicate moisture damage.
