Spring care
Post-winter exterior inspection — damage from snow load and freeze-thaw, drainage restoration, roof shingle check.
After winter, do a thorough exterior inspection.
- Look for any damage from snow load, ice, or freeze-thaw cycles
- Verify drainage around the foundation. If snowmelt has eroded the area around the base, restore the drainage.
- Inspect the roof shingles for any lifted edges or damage from wind and weather
- Clean any leaves or debris that accumulated around the base
- For coastal installations: rinse the exterior with fresh water if winter storms brought heavy salt deposits
Spring is also a good time to do an annual stone restack (Section 8.6) and a thorough wood inspection.
